Safety of Clindamycin, Ampicillin, Metronidazole, and Piperacillin-tazobactam- SCAMP
Background
These are antibacterial antibiotics with activity against bacterial pathogens associated with intra-abdominal infections.They also happen to be poorly studied in neonates, particularly preterm neonates. The NICHD2 is sponsoring this multicenter study that will evaluate these antibiotics in babies with complicated intra-abdominal infections Sharp Mary Birch is a study site among 50 centers around the country and Canada.
Purpose
The main purpose of this study is evaluate whether it is safe or not to use various combination of antibiotics (ampicillin, metronidazole, clindamycin, piperacillin-tazobactam, gentamicin) in treating infants with complicated intra-abdominal infections
